Athlete Services

Strength & Conditioning

  • An effective strength & conditioning programme can make you stand out amongst your competitors. It’s more than just lifting weights, it’s learning how to move correctly, be reactive from the floor, use your body efficiently in a well coordinated and mobile way to stay injury free. And it also looks very different for each body type and event group. Endurance runners, sprinters, jumpers and throwers all have their own unique requirements from a training programme to do their event well. We understand that, and that is why we have written programmes specifically tailored to event groups - and general preference of how athletes from different groups like to train.

  • Work with one of our coaches from PB gym on Copley Hill business park. As well as your coached session(s) you will receive an independent programme to be completed in your own time. We work with juniors to seniors, beginners to international athletes - and everyone receives the same level of dedication from their lead coach and the team as a whole. You will sign up to a fixed fee monthly training subscription based on the training requirements with your coach.

  • Working with us online, you benefit from the same knowledge and great training system as our coached athletes, with the flexibility to fit training around your schedule. You will follow the academy strength & conditioning programme for your event group, which will be monitored and progressed by our coaches. You training programme will follow the UK competition calendar structured as such:

    Schedule

September - December: Development Phase 1

January - March: Indoor Competition Season

April - May: Development Phase 2 - Pre Season

June - September: Outdoor Competition Season

    Training Design

Programmes are written in multi-week training cycles. In the development phase we aim to build physical capacities, you will have the opportunity to complete and improve upon the same session several times before moving on. During the competition phase the aim is to keep you in a state of competitive readiness, using a tried and tested training pattern we focus on post competition recovery and priming you for your next meet.

Technical Coaching

  • Technical proficiency can make or break your performance, and your body. Through much trial and error we have developed our highly effective ICE technical learning model. After observing your current technical model, we will improve specific movement in a stepwise fashion using a complex of; Isolated Exercise, Contextual Exercise, and then an Execution Exercise. At each stage using a combination of visual, auditory and kinesthetic feedback cues to help you become self aware of correct and incorrect execution.

We currently offer technical coaching for: Long Jump, Triple Jump, Sprints and Endurance Running.

  • Sessions take place in Cambridge, working one to one or part of a small group. You can book a single session, a series of sessions or arrange on-going support. To help us best prepare ahead of your first session we will request a video of your performance, with a specific comment on what you’re looking to improve or get out of working with us.

  • We offer two levels of technical support; Video review, and Lead Coach Support.

    Video Review

Send us a video of your current performance - add any specific questions or specific improvements that you’re looking for. We will compare it against our technical models and provide you with feedback on what’s going well, what can be improved, and how to improve it. We will also include video demonstrations of drills that would be useful to implement in your training.

    Lead Coach Support

Working with Ben Davies as your lead coach, he will manage your whole training programme - event technical progressions, sprint development, strength & conditioning, and competition scheduling. You will have an initial call to discuss your current level of performance, goals and training environment. You will be talked through a video review of your current performance and how you will improve upon it. Once the programme begins daily management will be via the Bridge Athletic App, where you will receive feedback on videos uploaded. Ben will also arrange regular check-in calls with you for more in depth training discussions. Ben currently only offers this for Long Jump and Triple Jump.

Squad Training

  • The squad programme is a hybrid 5-day programme combining track and gym sessions, We’re not a one size fits all training system, we run 3 programmes based on an athletes body type - metabolic, elastic, concentric - to optimise the workouts and ensure the athletes understand how to train to their strengths. We will design your competition schedule, and as best possible be in attendance. If you get injured, in coordination with the squad therapist, we will manage your rehab process in a fully supported way. As well as our coaches we also have senior athletes designated as squad leaders to offer mentorship and guidance around general life and training developments.

    On track

You will be led by our team of coaches and squad leaders, sessions involve jumps, technical progressions, sprint conditioning, and trackside circuits.

    In the gym

You will work independently (most arrange times to go together) following your programme from the Bridge Athletic App. You will be able to upload your training videos and feedback for coach review and comment. Training programmes are closely monitored and adapted based on regular discussion.

  • We’re a specialist jumps squad, who train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Cambridge. The squad currently has an age limit of 14+, it is a focussed and hard working environment where the athletes are educated as well as instructed. To help you stay healthy there we expect you to attend monthly therapy appointments either with our partner clinic in Stevenage, or a therapist of your own choice. If you’re interested in training with the squad get in touch to arrange a visit.

  • If you can’t make it to Cambridge you can follow our squad programme via the Bridge Athletic app, where you have the ability to change session days to suit your schedule. To find out more get in touch by clicking here.
